Day 2…

Day 2 was another hot one!

The picture below is of some of Greg’s crew finishing the ditch job.  I had just gotten there with water for them, so they were quite hot!  This crew did have a large tree that did offer a little shade.  Shown are:  Daniel, Dakota, Tucker, and Jody.  Not shown are Tommy, Sarah, Molly and Greg.  They finished up this job on Tuesday, so they will take on another job  tomorrow!

This is the home where Shane and Marsha’s flooring and tiling crew was working.  It was quite a job to carry all of the boxes of flooring up the steps to put it inside.  That job was done by Stan, Marsha, Shamarcus and Dusty.  On Tuesday that crew consisted of :  Marsha, Shane, BJ, Gus, Kody, Mallory, Taylor, Alayna and Kellyann.

Loading up at Home Depot!  Dusty and Shamarcus

The painting crew was hard at it again.  This crew was Dottie, Kayla, Claire, Nickey, Brianna, McKenna, and Jessica.  (Jerry, this one is for you! ) They were painting every interior room of a trailer.  The job was a hot one as there was no electricity yet, but the homeowner ran a cord to the door for a fan.  One of the rooms belonged to a little girl named Maci.  She got to pick her own colors out which were hot pink and lime green.  That  was one excited little girl,  jumping and clapping when she saw it!

Michael was put in charge of building a shed at the church to store tools in.  They made a lot of progress in one day!  Ken’s crew finished their ditch digging and started helping with the shed, then the paint crew made it back too.  Below, unloading the truck is a lot of fun!

The shed came up quickly.  The crews mixed together to work on this one after lunch.

More digging… Anne’ Marie, Spencer, Hailey, Matthew, Dylan, Amber, Chelsea and Ken.

Below, Gus and Amanda.

After all of that work, we needed to cool off.  What better way than with a snowcone?  This shop is about 1/2 mile from the church.  We saw it was opened so we hauled them down there for one!  They were delicious!

Look what we found!

I got back from an errand and the kids and Ken had found this poor defenseless turtle.  They loved it so much that they wanted to name it.  It was affectionately called SOUP!  They painted its nails and “Youth mission trip 08″ on its shell with finger nail polish.  Dusty was holding it up for its picture.  This was taken before they released him.  In case you can’t see at that angle, it wasn’t smiling!

This was taken on night 2 at the beach.  We put Greg’s foot in the shot in order for you to get an idea of just how big this jellyfish was.  This one was dead but we did spot some in the water that were alive.

Taking a BEACH Break…

Hello to everyone!  I am so excited that everyone is enjoying the blog and even commenting!  It makes all of us feel good to receive comments and to know that your prayers are with us!  We try to let everyone read their personal comments when we can but we are quite busy in the Mississippi sun!

I am at the library again after painting a house all morning and dropping off water to the flooring crew this afternoon.  I know all of you at home are anxious to see what we are doing and to see all of the smiling faces that keep you entertained!

The first pictures are from Monday afternoon at the beach.   Dottie had the great idea to write in the sand…Cute, huh!  Thanks Marsha for taking this photo while I was enjoying the water!

We thought this photo was beautiful!  It was a gorgeous day!  It reminded the ladies of the people crossing the Red Sea, especially when it is followed by the one in the water!

The swimming fun was over and you will notice to the left Shane face down in the water.  He tried to sneak up on Taylor and hurt his knee.  That is what he gets for messing with a girl!  His injury was not bad because he has been doing tile for two days since!

This is our fearless leader, Walker, Texas Ranger!  Ha Ha!  Tex for short!  LOL  Really, this is Brother Stan in his beach attire!

This is from Tuesday evening at the beach.  We waited until after supper to go to the beach because we had worked really hard and needed to rest a little while.  We did our daily devotion on the beach and wasn’t it beautiful???  We talked about service to others and our expectations for this trip.  Ken did a good job leading the devotion but it was really hard to sit on the sand and not play in it!

These are some group shots taken before devotion.  Noelle, Mallory, Taylor, Melaina, Brianna, McKenna, Brooke, and Amanda.

Another group consisting of Alayna, Sarah, Chelsie, Nickey, Amber, Molly, Jessica, and Anne’ Marie.

I guess the devotion was too long because immediately following it, Ken got buried in the sand!  Doing the job are Kayla, Gus, Noelle, Kody and Nickey!

This is our entire group of Youth members.  Too many to name, but we love them all!

This is our group of chaperones.  They will probably kill me for putting this one here, but I thought you would like to see it!

Okay, next coming, maybe tonight will be Day 2 and hopefully 3 work pictures!  Check back later!  I am loving all of this hits and comments on our blog!  We love and miss you all!

Day One…

These are a few snaps of the first day of work.  Check back later because we will also be posting beach pictures from last night!  We love all of you!  Mamas, we are taking very good care of your babies!

This is the mess hall.  It is like a big screened in back porch with fans in the corners.  As you can see, there are T-shirts hanging from the ceiling.  Every group that comes here on mission signs and dates their shirt as a token of their visit.  It is really fun to read everyone’s shirt.  Breakfast is served at 6:15, lunch at 11:30 and supper at 6:30.  The food has been really good, but we are missing our cokes.  No coke machine!

The two following pictures are our painting crew.  They painted an entire trailer’s interior. No electricity!  This is Jessica, McKenna and Brianna.

The rest of our painting crew minus Noelle, is Claire, Kayla, Nicky, and Dottie. Go girls!

This is Greg and BJ’s crew consisting of Jody, Dakota, Tucker, Daniel, Tommy, Sarah and Molly.  They were digging ditches for a day and a half.  Good job guys and girls!

The is our flooring crew:  Alayna, Taylor, Mallory, and not show Gus, Kody, Shane, and Marsha.  They are doing the whole house’s flooring.  Way to go!

This is Ken’s crew, Michael’s crew and the lunch crew.  It took all of us to get this ditch dug in the hot sun.  Pictured are:  Pattih, Annisa, Emily, Brooke, Michael and Gus.

More of this crew!  Melaina, Alayna, Kellyann, Mallory, Brooke, Emily, Dylan, Amanda, Spencer, Gus, Hailey and some others taking a break that we can’t see.

On the first day, we fixed our own lunches.  Pictured are Marsha, Rebekah, Taylor and Anna Marie.  The lunch crew for the first day was Rebekah, Patti, Kellyann, Emily and Anne’ Marie

This is the type of hut that the guys are staying in. These particular ones are called:  Matthew, Mark, Luke….Okay what’s next???

You guessed it!  The JOHN!  This one is for the ladies.  It has five shower stalls and 5 toliets.  You can’t drink the water because of sulphur content.  Kind of reminds us of Mexico.

And for all of your viewing pleasure….KEN propping on his shovel and telling others what to do!  Just kidding he is really working!  Ha Ha!! LOL

Coming soon!!!  Our first beach excursion!

Off we go…Mississippi here we come!

We started loading up at 1:30!  That took a while for 45 people to get their stuff loaded up!  We filled up a u-haul with luggage, tools and ice chest.  We had 2 fifteen passenger vans, a suburban, a quarter ton truck and a mini van and they were all full.

We left about 2:00, ate supper in Port Allen and arrived at our destination at 8:50.  You can imagine the confusion unloading all of that luggage at night.  We finally got settled in at about 10:30 only to find that the Ark, which is the girl’s cottage, had an air conditioner problem!  EEK!  Girls with no air is not good!  We made a midnight run to Wal-Mart to buy 3 box fans and life got better.  The trip was good and we are anxious to see what tomorrow holds.

They are coming…

I am on a mission to the library to upload pictures!  Everyone tells me that the connection is much faster there.  I hope so!  I am just dying to share with ya’ll!  Gotta check on everyone first.  Check back in a little while!  Our prayers go out to Mrs. Connie and all of the kids retaking the LEAP!

Love,

Patti

Patience is a virtue…

Okay everyone, I know that you are just waiting for pictures and I am STILL working to get them uploaded.  I had to do other things first like go to walmart and buy 10 cases of water and deliver it to all of our people.  We have one crew of painters, two ditch digging crews, one flooring crew, one shed building crew, the lunch/errand crew and the one man go getter crew of Brother Stan.  It is really hot but the crews are really working hard!  You all would be so proud and shocked!  I am trying again to upload from the church office, but if that doesn’t work this time, I am headed to McDonalds!  Everyone slept really well and cool last night.  We miss and love you all!

Making preparations…

We are preparing for our mission trip to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.  This is the area that was hit the hardest during Hurricane Katrina.  We will be staying at Lakeshore Baptist Church.  The ministry of this church is to help rebuild their community.  You can check out the work they have done in their community by following the link to Lakeshore Baptist Church to the right.  We will be updating this page while on our trip so that you will be able to keep up with us and know what kind of work we are doing.  Please keep us in prayer as we travel and prepare to work to help those who remain homeless.
